Up & Down

We actually got to go home on Saturday.  Lucy had a great few days at home, carefully following the DONT precautions.  She felt so good that it was hard not to stomp in the rain or ride her plasma car.

We struggled not to worry too much about another leak.  Had to discipline myself not to look at her nose or ask her about every sniffle.

This morning around 5:30, Lu came in to tell us that she had noticed a funny taste, with drainage down her throat that seemed like a leak.  That's right, Lu diagnosed herself with another leak.

We came to Egleston again and walked into the ER with Lu dressed up like she was headed to a party, pulling a polka-dotted backpack.  I felt silly checking her in.  The triage nurse said, "What's wrong with your child?"  I said, "She has a CSF leak from her recent surgery."  "How do you know she has a leak?" "I'm a doctor."  I wasn't try to be a wise-guy, but I am worn out and wanted to cut to the chase.

The medical team mobilized and Lucy has gone back for a more extensive repair of the area in her nose where they accessed her brain before. AND
another lumbar drain.   I asked if we were up to our free drain yet, since we had now done 3.  Not yet...

  1. I am not an early riser. Far from it. I typically drag myself out of bed.

So imagine my shock at sitting bolt upright in bed around 5:45 this morning. A few moments later I realized what had waked me: a dream about Lucy (with some preposterous detail thrown in):

I was in Atlanta at "Lucy's hospital" with Ellen Sistrunk. We weren't able to see you but Lucy's doctor did come out to talk to us. There were also five or six Bama fans in the tiny waiting room, all dressed in identical red shirts who were there to visit another patient. It seemed like they would *never* stop cramming into the room! They were doing a great sardine imitation.

The doctor was in the midst of telling us about Lucy when I awoke, certain that God wanted me to pray for Lucy right then. So I did. I even sent my daughter Katie (who is there in Atlanta) a text wishing her a good morning and telling her that I was up so early because I had been dreaming about Lucy. I sent Jill a photo of the screen of my phone showing my texts to/from Katie because this whole story sounds too unbelievable to be true.

Lucy is an amazing young lady. I am thankful that she has such a wonderful extended family. You all remain in my thoughts and fervent prayers. Our small group at the Anz house tonight will again include a special time of prayer for Lucy.

Thank you for taking the time to keep us updated!
